Matthew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Liz Babbs brought this verse to us at the Retreat day - Jesus doesn't tell us how to pray apart from in this verse! He tells us to close the door- in shutting out the distractions we are enabled to experience sabbath and rest.
I certainly felt a nudge from the Holy Spirit on this one - at home I hate shutting the doors! What's that about?? not wanting to miss out? feeling trapped? Whatever it is, as you can see, we made a compromise with the kitchen door and got one with large glass panels - closed and yet somehow "open"! How often is my quiet time with God like that? The time for reading the Bible and for praying, for meditating on His word and for asking for His guidance and wisdom for the day ahead?
So I'm going to be deliberately, firmly closing the door on the distractions. Shutting the door to worries and concerns; to the diary, to family and home; to responsibilities; to the news; to electronic devices ; music; TV; blogging; to "getting ahead"; to emails etc etc etc! Not leaving it ajar, but closing the door in order to spend time with God.
